A few weeks ago we hosted a get together at our cabin up north. I am always looking for festive ways to decorate the food table as we usually set up a buffet table at each meal where friends and family get their food, and then take it out on the porch to eat and enjoy the view. I saw this idea on Pinterest (HolidayHelpings.com) and thought it would be perfect for a rustic cabin setting, but wanted to share it with you as it would also be great for the 4th of July or any patriotic gathering. It is a silverware caddy where your guests can grab their silverware, napkins, and glasses all at once without trying to juggle all of these things and balance their plate at the same time.
All you need is a wooden box or tray that matches the theme of your party, small mason jars, and bandanas. The bandanas are the napkins, and the mason jars are the drinking glasses. You could use any color of bandana or alternate colors. Find the middle of your bandana, insert the silverware into the middle of it, and fold up the bandana around the silverware. Then insert the whole thing in the mason jar, and place all the jars in the box or tray. Then, when everyone goes through the food line, they can grab their glass, silverware, and bandana napkin all at once. If they don’t need a glass, they can just grab the napkin with the silverware inside it. The bandanas can be used over and over again for different parties so it is also a very green approach (even though they are red bandanas)!:)
I purchased my bandanas at Hobby Lobby. They have an amazing collection of colors there, and coupons on their website. I have also seen them at Wal-Mart recently. They have mason jars as well. If you need ideas for food, below are a few that work well with a patriotic theme (if your colors are red, white, and/or blue). I hope you enjoy your day, whatever you are doing!

This is a great idea for setting up all the utensils for 4th of July! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting! I checked out yours and love all the holiday ideas there. I look forward to your future posts.
What a neat idea! Definitely going to give this a go 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by, Este`. I wish I could take credit for it, but am grateful for Pinterest! Some people are very clever. I’m just good at copying!:) I hope you have a great weekend.
This is brilliant. We have large family BBQ’s 2-3 times per year and with all those people, it’s always a pain making room for napkins, cups and utensils. This solves ALL these problems. Thanks for posting.
You’re welcome! They have such pretty colors of bandanas available now, you can almost match any theme or holiday. It will give you a little bit of laundry, but on the plus side, once you have the bandanas you don’t have to spend money on paper goods. Your family bar-b-q’s sound like fun!
